Trans-Friendly Therapy
Helping Trans And Gender Diverse People Explore Their Gender Identity
If you are struggling with feeling vulnerable, angry and distressed, I understand how difficult that can be. You might be just starting to explore your gender identity, or you may be transitioning your way and clear on what you want.
Trying to negotiate the world when you don't fit neatly into the expected boxes is tough. Other people's judgements and reactions can make it hard to feel comfortable doing everyday things. Your day can be ruined by an insensitive comment or an ignorant question. Even though you may feel alone, know that many people in your circumstances need support considering the many challenges you are facing.
Here Are Some Specific Challenges That I Can Help You With
As a trans/ gender diverse person challenged with living in a binary focused world, you may be feeling:
• so visible and yet at the same time invisible in many ways
• scared that people will be aggressive towards you for not fitting their idea of how people should be
• hurt by the many times your experience is invalidated by the world around you
• tired of being the one who has to explain and educate other people
• anxious about whether you're going to be accepted
Even if you are feeling overwhelmed with feelings like these, Trans-Friendly Therapy can help.
As Your Psychotherapist and CBT therapist, I Can Help You With Trans-Friendly Therapy
I'm Rachel Phillips and I'm a Psychotherapist and CBT therapist who is uniquely qualified to help you. I know what it is like to feel different from the crowd. I understand that gender is not a binary thing and that there are many expressions of gender in the world. Whether you are clear on how you like to identify or whether you are still exploring what is right for you, I can help and support you in finding your way through. I am a strong trans/non-binary ally and will support you to express who you are in the most authentic way you can.
I realise how hostile the world can seem when you identify as trans, non-binary or gender queer so I will validate your experience of this and work to find safe ways for you to be you. I have supported friends and family and clients through the maze of services and surgeries available for trans people, so I recognise the hurdles you may have to jump and the choices that are open to you. You are invited to bring whatever is present for you and arrive just as you are.
When working with clients who are exploring their gender identity I do not work with a binary model. I recognise how important it is to understand and respect people’s individual sense of their identity. For example, for those who identify as gender-queer, it can be difficult to explain to others that they are not going to ‘eventually make up their mind’ and choose one gender or the other. I am comfortable working with the many different variations of gender we have.
